Barefoot Spas 77LB Review
Upgraded plug and play to 220v

Our Barefoot Spa has added a lot of value to our home and the outdoor space of our rental property. We do rent A LOT through AIRbnb. We’ve been able to increase rates across the board by featuring the spa on our listings with the LED lights going at night. I will upload picture.

My only issue was with the power connection. We bought the Barefoot 77LB because it was advertised at plug and play. Meaning we could hook it up like our old one with a regular plug and outlet. That is how we had it running at first, but that turned out to be inadequate for our guests. The complaint was, the water was nice and hot at first, but when you turn on the jets at full speed the heater cuts off, and the water cools down pretty fast. Kind of defeats the purpose of a HOT tub!

Our rental property is in the mountains and it gets quite cold. Long story short, we ended up upgrading the connection to 220v. Normally not an issue, but there wasn’t enough power in the breaker box for that (very old house/cabin), so we had to upgrade the service. This was an unexpected cost of $1,800!

After reading online, a lot of people have had the same problem with plug and play hot tubs. Expert articles I read also said even if the spa is plug and play to make sure it is “convertible” to 220v. Luckily our Barefoot Spa is convertible, so thats what we did, but we wish we would’ve known this going in so we could budget accordingly. Now that its set up right, our guests love it!

Used Barefoot Spa is… ok

Our experience with the salesperson at the store was not good, but the barefoot spa itself is ok, and we are happy with it. I still remember to this day. VERY RUDE TO MY WIFE! It was a used spa when we bought it last year. It is a 2012 model.

We got a really good deal, and again we love it. Thing is we’ve had a few unexpected challenges. Had to replace the pump motor because the store only did a 90 day warranty. It crapped out after about 11 months of ownership. Got the new pump put in yesterday and we are back up and running. Over all cost: $550. I work in wholesale and wish I had a connect in hot tub parts like with a manufacturer or supplier, but couldnt find a deal. Plus, I had to pay the store where I bought it to put it in. Wasn’t happy about that to say the least.

Damaged merchandise
We got a Plug & Play Barefoot Spa. We have it set up in our sun room. It’s a 110 plug-in and doesn’t have to be hardwired in to the wall. It has a good number of jets. 20 something I think. Everything was fine, but we had some minor problems with the in home delivery. They damaged the cover box during transit to our home. They put the cover on the truck wrong with the straps, and the wind on the truck made the straps damage the cardboard. They told me there’s nothing they can do about the damage to the box. The cover itself didn’t have much damage, but we are worried it might have done something to the foam side the cover. I hope this doesn’t create problems in the future. We had a washer dryer unit delivered once where the packaging was damaged and later the dryer stopped working. Again, I hope this doesn’t happen to our hot tub. It was the delivery people who were at fault though, and not Barefoot Spas. The spa has been great. Feels so good to have relaxation in water back in our lives. We’ve just got our fingers crossed about this cover thing.

We picked up our Barefoot Spa a few months ago when we saw one of the ads on tv about a show. We waited to push our review until we had it for a little bit of some time. Its now been almost a year. The spa is great. Only problem we had is with a headrest. Can’t get it to connect right. The little peg in the back of it is broken off. We’re waiting for a new one to come in the mail now.

The spa is really nice. We like everything about it. The people that answer the phone about fixing it have been pretty good too. Just wish I didn’t have to deal with it, but oh well. It is a lot nicer and works better than my old hot tub that we only got a year out of it then it died on us.

We don’t put many chemicals in the water at all. We bought a floor model they had running there at the show we fell in love with. Just didn’t like how it didn’t come with owners manual. However, customer service has been good with answering my questions. They are sending me a real copy of the owners manual. I don’t like having to go to a website or that sort of thing is all.

I had an issue with the delivery at first, but we got it worked out. I had to have the spa sit in my drive for a few days before they could get it done. The issue was it wouldn’t fit through my arch gateway. It had to go on it’s side to go through the gate, and it was too tall to fit through without hitting the arch. They had to bring it around the side of the house from the vacant lot next door. They needed special equipment for this., and thats why I had to wait the extra time with the hot tub sitting in my drive. Even though I was not all that happy at first about having to wait. I’m glad they did the right thing and came back to make it happen. In the end, they completed the service I paid for, and went out of their way. I can’t be but so mad about that. I haven’t hooked it up yet, but if its all its made out to be, I’m sure it’ll be a game changer for my wife and her arthritis.

Spa delivered late, not acceptable
I am not happy with the delivery of my hot tub. I was told I would receive my spa and all parts of my order quickly and within 3 days of my purchase. I could understand if the delivery was tight and off by a day, but it took almost an entire week to get my spa. I spoke with the delivery guy 3 times. He kept scheduling. They told me living far away would not be an issue, but apparently that is not true. Not happy at all about this. I had to postpone a work trip just so I could take delivery of my hot tub. Then, to make matters worse, they also told me I HAD TO BE THERE IN PERSON. Turns out, I just needed someone 18 years or older to sing for it. My nephew lives right around the corner and I could’ve gotten this done with no headaches, but due to being misinformed, my schedule got all jacked up, and I have nothing to show for it but a hot tub that is not hooked up and just sitting in my backyard until I get home from this trip next week. If I had to do this again, I would pick the damn thing up myself. instead of dealing with all this BS!

Get the right power hook up for the hot tub
First off, let me just say that the delivery company for my Barefoot Spa was really really good! Couldn’t be happier with that. We bought a Barefoot Spas ML7 at a show a the fairgrounds. While the delivery was easy, it’s important to know that you can’t just plug the thing up and jump in. It takes a really big cord and a special hook up. Didn’t know this. It all worked out in the end, but anybody looking at getting one of these big ones, most of them are plugged up this way come to find out. It was a little inconvenient for us. When we bought it, they didn’t say anything about it. We had to call all over the place to find someone who could finally do it. 3 days later after we got to stare at it, we got it hooked up, filled up and jumped in. Just saying… you need to hook these things up right. Keep this in mind ya’ll!

The only complaint I have about Barefoot Spas is when I got my hot tub delivered, it did not come with an owners manual. Call me old fashioned, but I like to have a booklet printed to come with everything I own so I can file it away. Instead, they make you go to the website and print it off. Relaxing chase recliner seat?
One morning last week, we woke up and decided, today is the day we will finally buy our hot tub! So, we rode over to the store where we bought our pool, and met Rick there. He was the gentleman who helped us build our pool. They had a pretty good display of the Barefoot Spas there. We found one we liked, and even sat in it at the store. They sold us the one they had on display for an extra discount, and a really good deal. That was all fine.

We love the spa. No regrets. The only problem we have is I float right out of the chase recliner seat! As soon as the jets turn on I shoot right out of it, and I have to hold on just to keep from floating to the other side of the hot tub. We always have a good laugh about it, but its not what I would call therapy. Wish I would’ve known this before I bought because we would have gotten one with all bench style seating and no lounge lay down seat. My husband doesn’t float out of the lounge though, so he gets that all to himself… Hey, I thought this spa was for both of us!

I have a recommendation for the manufacturer to change the design of the sucker inner screens at the bottom of the tub. My daughter rested her foot on it and broke it off. We can’t get the plastic piece out now because it sunk to the bottom and is just stuck down there. Guess we’ll have to I wish they would’ve made the screen thing flush with the surface. Just seems a little fragile to have sticking out 3 inches right where your feet go. The spa is well built, but I just don’t get how they would make the plastic piece so easy to break off and so fragile. They are sending out a replacement because they said it was “defective”. Waiting not that… I guess we’ll see.

Do not deal with these people
Barefoot Spas is one of the most unreliable companies ever. I ordered a hot tub from their factory, and they promised they would have it to me in 6-8 weeks. Every time I’ve ordered something like this, it never takes as long as they say it will. When I ordered my custom closet, they said 4-6 weeks, and it only took 3 weeks, so why did it take 8 weeks to get my hot tub?!!!

I was very disappointed with Barefoot Spas. I had a family reunion planned at my house, and used this as a deadline. I wanted to enjoy the hot tub with my entire family. It would’ve been a huge hit, I know it. We had almost 20 people here, and the spa would’ve gotten tons of use, but those plans fell short because the spa took 2 days before 8 weeks to get here!!!! I’m never doing business with Barefoot Spas again.

The worst part is, I called almost every week for an update, and every time they assured me, that the hot tub was right on schedule for the time they quoted. I can’t believe it actually took as long as they said. That never happens. The customer service is horrible. All I asked is for them to give me an update on my order. Cant they do this every day? I want an update every day on the progress. Did they give it to me?? No they did not! I invested a lot of money, and was very thorough, and called them I don’t know how many times, and still the spa showed up two days before the maximum time allowance! If you’re on a tight schedule (who isn’t these days?), then do not deal with these people! When I pay this kind of money for something, I expect it to be delivered well before the maximum time allowance at time of purchase!!!

No cool down seat as advertised

I bought this spa for my wife and I. It was hard to convince her to get one because she really doesn’t like hot water like I do. One of the selling features in our Barefoot Spas M series ML8, was the cool down seat. This is a seat on the side with no jets, and it sits up higher than the other seats. My wife is tiny. She’s 4’10″. I’m 6’4″… I know we’re not the same size. The salesman told us that even though my 13 year old son is taller than her, the cool down seat would still have her to where she wouldn’t over heat, and a good portion of her body would be “out of water”. This is not at all the case. The spa is DEEP! In the “cool down seat”, she is still barely able to keep her shoulders out the water. The other seats? Forget about it!

Thanks Barefoot Spas, now I get to hear an earful every time she uses the spa, and even when I use it! This is really something I wanted to avoid. I even bought her a hot tub booster seat, and she won’t use it. Now only I can use the hot tub, and not her. This doesn’t work out at my house. Stuck with a huge deep hot tub, when I could’ve gotten a smaller one that fit both our needs. Now I have to sneak out every time to use it so she doesn’t get jealous an nag at me. Thanks a lot Barefoot…

I don’t know what else they are trying to sell me, but since I purchased I’ve been getting spammed in my email to buy this or that, chemicals etc. My spa doesn’t even take chemicals! I tried removing myself from the email subscription several times, but I still get the emails. I tried calling an they claim they don’t know whats going on. Cover flies off the hot tub beware!

We got the Barefoot Spas PL8 and it fits great in our backyard patio. However, a few things have happened with the spa itself. The first thing was the screw for the siding stripped almost immediately. I have never seen screws strip so easily. I had to remove the siding 5 or 6 times because I had some problems when I first got it because I filled it the wrong way and got an airlock in my pump.

Also, the cover flies off the hot tub like it has wings unless you strap it down. We have a strong wind come though from time to time. It does not say to lock the cover in the owner’s manual. (I read the whole thing), and I figured since the cover does have some weight to it that it wouldn’t take off in the air. Turns out I was wrong. I had no warning of this. A little heads up would’ve helped!

I am not happy with this product

I am not happy with this product

My brother bought a spa from Barefoot Spas 6 months ago and told me all about it. I bought the 7 foot square hot tub with the LED lights at the bottom, and the cool down seat with the jets on it.

When I dealt with customer service, they were helpful, but I would not recommend Barefoot because I’m not happy with this product. I spent a lot of money and paid cash for my tub. They had to special order my hot tub, and I think that’s what caused the mix up. There was supposed to be a big lens at the bottom of the spa near where your feet go that houses 8 LED lights. They called me and told me they had to change the LED lighting for me and I get a free “upgrade” for whatever reason. I told them as long as the LED light is still at the bottom I’m fine with it, but when it was delivered, there were only 4 tiny LED lights at the bottom all spread out, and the rest were up top by the water level. I thought it wasn’t a real big deal when they delivered it, but the whole reason I like more lights at the bottom is I like how it lights up where your feet go at night, and you can actually see your feet. When I turn it on at night theres just not enough light on the bottom like my brothers hot tub.

The rest of the spa is great. I was Surprised by some other things like how comfy the lounge seat is, and I don’t float out of it like I did in my old one. It’s just the one thing I REALLY wanted was the big LED lights in the bottom, and they had to screw that up for me. I hate it when manufacturers change things and don’t tell you. I understand they are trying to make the product better and let it progress, but I ordered the spa the way I did for a reason, and now I am stuck with something I do not want and I can’t enjoy the way I wanted to.

Can’t imagine life without my Barefoot Spa

After a hard day at work and coming home and relaxing in the my Barefoot Spa is soothing, stress relieving and rejuvenating! I cannot imagine life without my Barefoot Spa! I’ve had a hard time finding a replacement filter though. Other than that, amazing hot tubs!
